Are your kids grumbly over the thought of going back to school? MPM thinks just the mention of a sundae for breakfast will have your lil’ sleepyheads dressed and ready to go in a flash! (works just as well with grownups!) On the weekends, set out all the ingredients and let the kids come up with their own yummy creations!
Ingredients
• 2 cups plain or juice sweetened yogurt
• About 2 cups assorted fresh fruit, cut into small pieces
• About 2 cups crunchy, low sugar kid-friendly cereal
• Honey or all natural fruit preserves (optional)
• 4 parfait glasses
• 4 spoons
Instructions
1. In a medium bowl, toss together chopped fruit. To each glass, add a layer of yogurt, fruit and cereal. Repeat layers. If desired, drizzle each parfait with honey* or top with a spoonful of fruit preserves.
Notes
Make Ahead and Storage Tips: parfaits may be made the night before, adding the cereal (to prevent from getting soggy) as a topping just before serving.[br][br]Here’s a great chance to get your lil’ chefs involved in a simple and fun cooking project. [br]Take the kids along with you to the market and let them choose their favorite fruits such as bananas, grapes, berries, peaches, pears, apples, plums, etc. This would also be an excellent time for you to introduce them to new tastes, colors and textures of fruits they may not have tried before like kiwi, papaya and mango.[br][br]Look for kid-friendly, low sugar cereals such as Kashi’s Mighty Bytes (5 grams) or Envirokidz’ Gorilla Munch. (8 grams)[br][br]*The American Academy of Pediatrics states children under the age of 1 should not be given honey.
